Houston Wins League Championship Series
|
The Houston Drillers clubhouse was filled with glee and celebration tonight, while the Detroit Wolverines room was filled with despair and sadness after the League Championship Series concluded.
"Someone's got to win and someone's got to lose, we're just glad we're on the good end of it tonight and can enjoy this," said Mike Wells, who was named MVP for a strong series of offensive performance.
Houston won the final game by a 5-2 count at Sam Houston Field and the series 4-1.
Detroit manager Alex Wobbema was simple and to-the-point in his assessment of the series.
"They were the better team and deserve to move on," he said.
For the series, Wells hit .444 with a .450 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 3 runs.
The Houston Drillers don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Pittsburgh Industrials - San Diego Captains series. Pittsburgh leads the series 3 games to 1. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.
