Industrials Win Again, Extend Series Lead to 3-0
|
Already in trouble in the World Series, the Houston Drillers knew they needed a strong outing from their starter and good production on offense. They got one of the two.
The Drillers failed to put much together on offense and wasted an impressive 7.1-inning effort from right-handed starter Rick McStay, falling, 4-1, to the Pittsburgh Industrials at Sam Houston Field. The loss put the Drillers in an even deeper hole -- they now trail Pittsburgh 3-0.
Pittsburgh used a timely hit from Carlos Chavez to get the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Industrials ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
Drillers manager Steven Palps did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World Series."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sam Houston Field in Houston.
