Emeralds Rocked By Seagulls, 10-1
|
The San Francisco Seagulls got their 1974 Major League Baseball season off to a good start, defeating the Seattle Emeralds, 10-1. Don Johnson set the pace. He was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3.
Bobby Tapia had a big 2-run double for the Seagulls in the bottom of the fifth inning. With San Francisco leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a cutter from Mike Harris, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1966 draft, and swatted a double to right. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Seagulls ahead, 5-1.
"Things went our way," said Tapia.
