The Dallas Wranglers started the 1973 season win an impressive 8-2 win against the Houston Drillers at Bluff Park. Ron Somers, who finished 5th in the ABL in on-base percentage with .397 in 1970, led the way for Dallas. Barry Gilmore picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 1-0.

John Darnell had a big run-scoring triple for the Wranglers in the bottom of the second inning. With Dallas leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a curveball from Syed Farooqi, who finished 4th in the ABL in ERA with 2.56 in 1971, and swatted a triple to right. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Wranglers ahead, 2-0.

"I'm just looking to see the ball, hit the ball," said Somers.
