Wathen Helps Detroit Cruise to 10-3 Win
The Detroit Wolverines defeated the Houston Drillers, 10-3. Third Baseman Emil Wathen deserved a large share of the credit. Wathen went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the Wolverines. The winning pitcher was Jim Bryant. He tossed 117 pitches over 7.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. Detroit leads the American Baseball League Eastern Division by 2½ games.

Early in the game, third baseman Duane Simmons had a 3-run home run for Detroit. It was his 17th home run of the season and put the Wolverines on top, 3-0.
