The Atlanta Generals and New York Empires rewarded fans hoping for a nail-biter.

The Atlanta Generals found a way to sneak past the New York Empires, 3-2, in 10 innings. Atlanta pitcher Gary Ovitt, for one, had a standout performance. Atlanta reliever Napoleon Russi got the win, raising his record to 2-1. Dave Kretz was tagged with the loss.

The Generals got a clutch hit from second baseman Gary Austin. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Generals.

"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Philipe Yazzie.

The Generals now have a record of 30-42 with the win over New York.
