The Detroit Wolverines could not turn a fine performance from third baseman Joe Voss into a win. Instead, the Atlanta Generals prevailed, 9-7. Voss was 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 4 times. The winner in relief was Ron Winder. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed 4 runs on 3 hits in 1.1 innings. Detroit now is 1-6.

Atlanta used a timely hit from Rudy Spencer to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Generals ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
