Empires Earn Late Win
|
New York registered a win at Queens Field by beating the Toronto Hurons, 3-2. Pitcher Andy Humphrey was one reason why the Empires triumphed. The Empires bumped their record to 38-34 with this win.
Had Dave Matuzak not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Matuzak hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Empires.
New York manager Jose Placeholder praised his team's "energy."
