Empires Capture Close Win

Queens Field was the site of some high drama.
The New York Empires defeated the Atlanta Generals, 5-4, in American Baseball League action at Queens Field. New York pitcher Jon Pierce had a standout performance. Jack Pratt snagged the win in relief. He goes to 9-4 on the season. Ron Winder suffered the loss.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, former first round draft pick Rick Haun had a real shot to win the game. Atlanta pitcher Ron Winder was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Haun hit a run-scoring single. The Empires had a walk-off triumph.
"I had a good game," said Haun. "Winning makes it even better."
After today's action, New York sits at 43-28, while Atlanta falls to 32-39.
