Industrials Get Clonked by Eagles, 3-1
|
The Washington Eagles went home winners at Monument Field, thanks in large part to starter Dave Alexander. Alexander stifled the Pittsburgh Industrials, enabling Washington to grab the 3-1 win. Alexander, now 7-6, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Curt Kirkley earned the save, his 9th, for the Eagles.
The Eagles got a big at-bat from center fielder Jeff Lawler. For the game, Lawler went 1-3 with a double. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 8th double of the season gave Washington a 2-0 lead.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Lawler.
The loss makes Pittsburgh 43-31.
