Empires Bridle Wolverines, 3-2
|
John Fredrick, who finished 3rd in the ABL in wins with 18 in 1967, pitched well, but the Detroit Wolverines still fell short, losing, 3-2, to the New York Empires at Wolverine Field. The save went to Andy Humphrey, his 7th this season. The Empires bumped their record to 37-36 with this win.
Dave Matuzak, who is tied for 6th in the ABL in triples with 5, helped out the New York cause in the top of the sixth inning with a 2-run home run. For the game, the shortstop went 1 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Detroit manager Alex Wobbema.
