Ramon Montoya powered the Seattle Emeralds to a win over the Chicago Hawks. The final score was 5-1. The Seattle first baseman, who finished 4th in the NBL in extra base hits with 58 last year, was phenomenal. He stroked 2 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 1 double. Dave Torre, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-4. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 3 hits and no runs, while striking out 3 and walking 2. The loss makes Chicago 34-40.

Seattle used the timely hitting of John Klein to capture the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Emeralds on top, 4-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.

"We understand we didn't play our best baseball," said losing manager Mike Flaherty. "We'll shower it off and be ready to compete."
