Cincinnati shortstop Dave Lester contributed significantly to his team's 5-2 win over the New York Knickerbockers. Lester, the 27th overall pick in the 1966 draft, went 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Packers. Brian Williams recorded the save, his 10th. Cincinnati now owns a record of 36-38.

Early in the game, Lester had a solo home run for Cincinnati. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Packers on top, 1-0.

"I thought we played a nice game," Lester told the Cincinnati Citizen. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
