Bluebirds Nipped by Quakers, 4-3
|
The Philadelphia Quakers picked up a win at Quakers Stadium, dropping the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 4-3. Mel Hartman, who is tied for 8th in the NBL in strikeouts with 73, was the difference-maker. Darrell Klug earned the save, his 7th in 9 tries. Philadelphia is now 42-33, while Brooklyn is 42-32.
John Linden dealt the Bluebirds a blow in the bottom of the sixth. Batting with a runner on 3rd and Philadelphia leading 3-0, Linden hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single.
"We have a lot of confidence in Mel," said Philadelphia manager Jeff Green.
