Briggs King of Fling with No-Hitter
|
The Pittsburgh Industrials were just hoping for a solid outing from Bob Briggs. Instead, they got something special.
The 24-year-old hurler tossed a no-hitter against the New York Knickerbockers, helping the Industrials take the 4-0 win.
"I felt good throughout the game," he said after his spectacular outing for the Industrials. "As I was going into the ninth inning, I wasn't nervous. I knew I had a chance to do something special."
Briggs's repertoire has a cutter, changeup, and fastball, and he used it all to full advantage, keeping the New York hitters off balance all game long. The Pittsburgh hurler fanned 8 and walked 3 in his history-making performance.
"His cutter looked about the size of a watermelon seed and it hissed at you as it passed," New York manager Timothy Widholm joked after the game.
In 16 starts this season, Briggs has registered a 9-4 record and a 2.26 ERA.
