Industrials 6-3 Winners Versus New York
|
The Pittsburgh Industrials picked up a win at Allegheny Field, dropping the New York Knickerbockers, 6-3. Bob Briggs, who finished 5th in the NBL in strikeouts with 161 in 1974, was the difference-maker. Ike Travis was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 8 of 10 save opportunities. The win gives Pittsburgh a season record of 48-30.
Tom Crowell was 1 for 4 for Pittsburgh. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Crowell, who finished 5th in the NBL in slugging percentage with .494 in 1969, had a clutch at-bat. Facing New York hurler Brian Williams, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Industrials a 4-3 lead.
Said losing manager Sean Kelly: "We just didn't get it done tonight."
