Bulls Lose to Captains, 4-1
|
San Diego turned a good effort from starter Ed Payne into a win over the Kansas City Bulls at Independence Field. The Captains won the game, 4-1. The winner was Payne. He threw 7.1 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Dick Scorza. Getting the save was Ed Prater, his 10th.
San Diego used a clutch at-bat from Reid Rodgers to capture the win. The third baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Captains ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Ed really held it together well," said San Diego manager Joe Mack.
Today's win puts San Diego at 42-34, while Kansas City falls to 38-35.
