Pittsburgh Defeats New York, 2-1
|
In a tight contest between the Pittsburgh Industrials and the New York Knickerbockers, Gene Steinhauer was the determining factor. The Pittsburgh right-hander sparkled in his team's 2-1 win. Steinhauer, the winner, moves to 4-4. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 4 walks. The victory gives the Industrials a record of 44-32.
There was more than one reason the Industrials beat the Knickerbockers, but Steinhauer's big at-bat in the top of the second was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Steinhauer.
