The New York Empires used a top-flight performance from 25-year old left-handed pitcher Jon Pierce to beat the Detroit Wolverines, 2-1, in 11 innings. New York reliever Jack Neenan picked up the win to move to 1-4. Paul Carter suffered the loss. The victory gives the Empires a record of 41-34.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Chuck Estrada? The 23-year old third baseman Estrada stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 11th inning to put New York up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.

"Runs were at a premium," said New York manager Jose Placeholder.
