In 17, Montreal Beats Toronto, 13-9
|
Habitants second baseman Roberto Alvarez left his mark on his team's 13-9 win over the Toronto Hurons. Alvarez, who is a three-time All-Star, was 5 for 8 with a double, 4 singles, and a walk. He scored 4 runs for Montreal in the contest. Eric Roe, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 4 innings. Montreal now sits at 41-34, while Toronto falls to 32-45.
Montreal needed the clutch hitting of Jim Compton to seal the deal. The right fielder swatted a solo home run in the top of the 17th inning to put the Habitants on top, 10-9. For the game, Compton had 1 home run and 1 single in 8 at-bats.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Alvarez.
