Haun 4-for-4 to Ignite Empires Offense
The New York Empires defeated the Detroit Wolverines, 8-4. Second Baseman Rick Haun deserved a large share of the credit. Haun was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2 for the Empires. The winner was Tom Duncan in relief. His record improves to 4-3. Jim Bryant took the loss. The first-place Empires have won 4 in a row.

The Empires got a big hit from third baseman Gary Austin. In the bottom of the seventh, Austin smacked a 2-run double off Detroit pitcher Darrell Klug. It was his 12th double of the season. Suddenly, the Empires were ahead, 5-4.

"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said New York manager Dan Whiting.
