Bulls Score Late to Upend Captains, 7-5
The Kansas City Bulls welcomed the San Diego Captains to an afternoon game at Independence Field.

The Kansas City Bulls beat the San Diego Captains, 7-5, at Independence Field. The Bulls got a fine performance from pitcher Lewis Smith, who came in in relief and pitched to 17 batters. The 5th-place Bulls now sit at 35-41.

An inflection point occurred with one out in the bottom of the eighth. That's when Bulls pinch hitter Joe Rafferty hit a fastball from Ron Barc for a 2-run single. Just like that, Kansas City was up, 6-5.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Rafferty told the Kansas City Observer.
