In a low-scoring tilt between the Los Angeles Pobladores and the Seattle Emeralds, Phil Lester, who led the ABL in innings pitched with 286.2 in 1971, was the difference-maker. The Los Angeles left-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. The 5th-place Pobladores now have a record of 36-41.

Los Angeles won the game in part because of Bobby Bridges. The left fielder ripped a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Pobladores ahead, 3-0. For the game, Bridges had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Seattle skipper Mark Velez, "and it cost us."
