Antonio Valerio pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Brooklyn Bluebirds, despite Valerio's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Pittsburgh Industrials at Flatbush Park. The Bluebirds, at 37-41, have lost 5 straight games.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the sixth, with the game tied, Rob Isenbarger was at the plate when Pittsburgh scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Industrials to go in front, 2-1.
"That's baseball," said Brooklyn manager John Meeker. "You're not always going to be hitting on all cylinders."
