Los Angeles pitcher Bob Powell did his part in helping his team beat the Houston Drillers, 5-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Los Angeles now sits at 37-41, while Houston falls to 42-36.

Los Angeles used the timely hitting of John Fine to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pobladores on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Los Angeles manager Kurt Peterson.
