New York third baseman Gary Austin had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 5-4, to Baltimore at Seton Hill Stadium. Austin was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Baltimore reliever Efrain Roca picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Jack Pratt took the loss. Baltimore is now 45-33, while New York is 47-30.

Baltimore got a knockout punch from Lew Ward. The pinch hitter hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"We couldn't have scripted it any better," Ward said in his postgame press conference.
