Northmen Top Emeralds, 2-0
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Seattle Emeralds home opener. Mike Harris started for the home team against Gerald Gross for the Twin Cities Northmen. The Emeralds were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 2-0, Twin Cities, in 13 innings. Mike Harris, though, was impressive. Jeff Jordan picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Dooley Brewer, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1964 draft, was tagged with the loss. Paul Whitaker sewed up the save, his 1st.
Twin Cities used the timely hitting of Tom McNabb to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 13th inning to put the Northmen on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame remarks, McNabb simply said: "Here's to a great win!"
