The Atlanta Generals launched their 1976 campaign with a victory over the Boston Terriers at Atlantic Station Field. Atlanta first baseman Ed Mika was instrumental in the 4-1 win. He went 4 for 4 with 3 doubles, while adding 3 RBI. Atlanta pitcher Bill Davis got the win. He's now 1-0. Bruce Shurtleff was tagged with the loss.
Atlanta took a 4-1 lead on Mika's 3rd double of the season. The 2-run double, which he hit off Bruce Shurtleff in the bottom of the seventh, propelled Atlanta to the win.
Mika told a Atlanta Observer reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
