Bulls Rally Late to Nip Blockbusters
There was never a dull moment in an extra-length game between the Kansas City Bulls and the Los Angeles Blockbusters.

Los Angeles got a big-time effort from pitcher Larry Messenger, but it wasn't enough to keep the Kansas City Bulls from winning the game, 3-2. Messenger threw 8.2 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Walt Gardner claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. His record stands at 1-3.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the tenth, with the game tied, Hal Lahr was at the plate when Kansas City scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Bulls to go in front, 3-2.

After the game, Kansas City manager DD Martin applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.

Kansas City sits in last place in the National Baseball League Western Division at 29-52.
