Lords Thwart Empires, 4-3
|
Fans saw a dandy of a game between the Baltimore Lords and New York Empires.
The 4-3 Baltimore win over New York was due largely to Tim McNeely. The Lords left fielder went 2 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The winner in relief was Efrain Roca. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3 innings. He now owns a record of 4-1.
Had John Balliet not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Balliet hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Lords.
"Both teams played hard," said Baltimore manager Steve Read.
Baltimore raised its record to 46-33 with the win.
