Bluebirds Get 5-2 Win Versus Washington
|
Brooklyn pitcher Antonio Valerio did his part in helping his team defeat the Washington Eagles, 5-2. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. Valerio got the win, improving to 5-5. He gave up 5 hits and walked 1 over 7.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Bob Hill, credited with the save, is now 18 for 22 in save opportunities.
Tom Pena went 2-4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs for Brooklyn. The slick-fielding shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a 2-run single off Mike Cooper. It was his 49th hit of the season.
Pena said his team "played with determination."
Brooklyn is now 39-40, Washington 34-46.
