Pittsburgh Defeated by Brooklyn, 10-1
|
The Pittsburgh Industrials took it on the chin, losing, 10-1, to the Brooklyn Bluebirds. Jorge Sandoval, who finished 4th in the NBL in wins with 18 last year, pitched a strong game for Brooklyn. The defeat makes Pittsburgh 47-34.
Don Calise had a big 2-run home run for the Bluebirds in the bottom of the first inning. With Brooklyn trailing 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a slider from Gene Steinhauer, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1968 draft, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Bluebirds on top, 2-1.
"We have a lot of confidence in Jorge," said Brooklyn manager John Meeker.
