Eagles Bridle Knickerbockers, 4-3
|
No one was more impactful than Larry Wools in the 4-3 Washington win over New York. Wools, who finished 5th in the NBL in hits with 187 last year, went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times. Picking up the win was Ramon Juarez. He went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. The right--hander struck out 4 and walked 1. Richie Kingery earned his 13th save in 19 chances.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Mike Lockhart? The five-time All-Star Lockhart stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put Washington up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"It was a team effort and I thought the guys had a good plan and approach," said Lockhart after the game.
Washington is now 39-42, New York 40-42.
