The Wolverines earned a hard-fought, 7-5 win in 11 innings at Atlantic Avenue Grounds. To do so required withstanding a fine effort from Boston pitcher Bruce Shurtleff. Shurtleff went 10 innings and allowed 4 runs. Detroit reliever Paul Carter picked up the win to move to 7-6. Sergio Cisneros suffered the loss. Brian Long earned his 3rd save in 4 chances.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Randy Cowell came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Boston pitcher Sergio Cisneros, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Detroit on top, 6-4.

"Took some scratching and clawing," said Cowell. "But we got it done."

The Wolverines bumped their record to 42-41 with this win.
