Hawks Lose Again, 7-6, to Seagulls
|
Seagulls first baseman Don Johnson left his mark on his team's 7-6 win over the Chicago Hawks. Johnson, who led the ABL in on-base percentage with .443 in 1970, was 2 for 3 with a triple and a walk, while scoring 3 runs for San Francisco in the contest. San Francisco reliever Dan Wood snagged the win, upping his record to 5-4. Mark Evert shouldered the loss. Chicago is still trying to get off the schneid, having lost 6 in a row.
Had John Cobb not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Cobb hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Seagulls.
"We ground out the win," said Johnson. "That's all that matters."
