Empires Slip Past Habitants, 6-3
|
Jack Neenan, who led the ABL in saves with 29 in 1973, had a strong outing for the New York Empires against the Montreal Habitants at Queens Field. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 6-3 win. At 42-39, the Empires claim first place in the American Baseball League Eastern Division.
New York took a 5-3 lead on Al Castro's 9th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which Castro hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Montreal pitcher Dave Quinlan visibly frustrated.
"Jack's as tough as he is talented," said New York manager Dan Whiting.
