Captains Score Late to Upend Traders, 7-4
|
The San Diego Captains topped the Chicago Traders, 7-4, with shortstop Ernie Wilkins playing a big role. Wilkins was 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 3 runs for the Captains in the win. The winning pitcher was Ray Heath. His record now stands at 9-6. The right-hander went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits for the Captains. San Diego's record now stands at 46-38, placing them second in the National Baseball League Western Division.
Earl Peters, who is a three-time All-Star, helped out the San Diego cause in the top of the fifth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the catcher was 1-3 with 2 walks.
