Denver pitcher Francisco Castro did his part in helping his team beat the St. Louis Explorers, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. The National Baseball League Western Division-leading Burros have a record of 52-33.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Burros had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the sixth, when third baseman Dick Hoffmeier hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Marty Clark and made the score 3-2, Burros. Hoffmeier went 1-3.

"Every loss hurts," said St. Louis manager Ray Fleetwood. "But this was a tough one."
