Packers 7-4 Winners Versus Brooklyn
|
Brooklyn third baseman Wade Fields was sensational. He was 2-2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Cincinnati beat the Bluebirds, 7-4. John Stoddard, the winner, improved to 6-4. He held the Bluebirds to 3 runs on 6 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 4. With the win over Brooklyn, the Packers improved to 37-48.
Cincinnati third baseman Mike Clarke contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a cutter to right-center field for a 2-run single. It was his 15th hit of the season and put the Packers ahead, 4-2.
"It never gets old," said Clarke. "Winning, that is."
