Bobcats Nudge Past Explorers, 3-2
|
The Cleveland Bobcats converted a terrific effort from starter Ken Norford into a win over the St. Louis Explorers at Lakefront Stadium. The Bobcats won the game by a final score of 3-2. The win was credited to Joe Clabaugh in relief. His record improves to 7-4. Robbie Goolsby took the loss. The National Baseball League Eastern Division-leading Bobcats have a record of 49-32.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Charlie Wright came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing St. Louis pitcher Robbie Goolsby, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cleveland on top, 3-2.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Norford told the Cleveland Daily News.
