Boston Sunk by Atlanta, 2-1
|
The Atlanta Generals had to overcome a fine effort from Boston pitcher Ken Torkelson to win, 2-1, at Atlantic Station Field. Torkelson went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs. Ron Cwiklinski was the winner. He's now 4-6. The loser was 22-year old right-handed pitcher Ken Torkelson. The 6th-place Generals have won 5 consecutive games.
Ed Mika, who finished 3rd in the ABL in OPS with .923 in 1971, aided the Atlanta cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the left fielder drove in one run.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Mika told the Atlanta Bulletin.
