The Atlanta Generals got a superb performance from pitcher Renie White, but the New York Empires still won the game, 5-3. White threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The win was credited to Tom Duncan in relief. His record improves to 7-3. Joe Johnson took the loss. The victory gives the Empires a record of 46-36.
New York took a 5-3 lead on Miguel Preciado's 14th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Preciado hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Atlanta pitcher Joe Johnson visibly frustrated.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Preciado, "and then get after the next one."
