Quakers Score Late, Top Bobcats, 8-3
|
Starting pitcher Phil Moore pitched well enough to help the Philadelphia Quakers beat the Cleveland Bobcats, 8-3. The winner was Moore. He threw 7.0 innings allowing 3 runs. The loser was Bruce Cardenas. Philadelphia, at 38-46, sits in 6th place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.
Philadelphia used the clutch hitting of Roger Turner to snag the win. The third baseman drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Quakers ahead, 7-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Philadelphia skipper Jeff Green.
