Baltimore Beaten, 9-7, by Montreal
|
The Montreal Habitants defeated the Baltimore Lords, 9-7. Doing his part was left fielder Jerry Sullivan, who was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Montreal pitcher Mark Weeks got the win, upping his record to 4-1. Pete Veirs got the loss. Al Johns closed the game out for Montreal, earning his 18th save.
Oscar Corte came through with a big-time hit for Montreal. The shortstop smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 9-7. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We ground out the win," said Sullivan. "That's all that matters."
The third-place Habitants sport a record of 46-38.
