Knickerbockers Get Clutch Win, 2-1
|
The Pittsburgh Industrials got a superb performance from pitcher Ron Winder, but the New York Knickerbockers still won the game, 2-1. Winder threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball. The win belonged to Tim Fried in relief. His record improves to 4-7. Bob Cole took the loss for Pittsburgh. The win gives New York a season record of 47-36.
New York took a 2-1 lead on Dwayne Lamons's 12th home run of the season. The solo home run, which Lamons hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Pittsburgh pitcher Bob Cole visibly frustrated.
"The old adage is true," said Lamons. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
