Hurons Sneak Past Empires, 3-2
|
The Toronto Hurons took New York pitcher Jon Pierce's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Queens Field. The final score had Toronto getting past the Empires, 3-2. Pierce went 7 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 3. Picking up the save was Randy Robins. He's now 3 for 3 in save chances. Toronto now sports a record of 45-42.
Dave Browning came through with a big-time hit for Toronto. The shortstop smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Toronto manager Jim Burns.
