Wolverines Take Down Empires, 4-3
|
Fans who congregated at Queens Field were treated to extra-inning drama.
Detroit starter Larry Black pitched well against the New York Empires at Queens Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-3, in 10 innings. Detroit reliever John Bailey picked up the win, raising his record to 5-2. Jack Pratt was tagged with the loss.
Detroit needed the clutch hitting of Booker Lee to seal the deal. The second baseman swatted a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Wolverines on top, 4-3. For the game, Lee had 1 home run and 1 single in 2 at-bats.
"We've got guys willing to do what it takes to win," Lee told the Detroit Daily News.
With the win, Detroit upped its record to 45-42.
