Crowds lined up early in front of Seton Hill Stadium, eagerly awaiting the start of the 1975 Major League Baseball season. On the mound was Jon Pierce for the visiting New York Empires and Larry Diego for the hometown Baltimore Lords. In a spirited contest, the Empires pulled out the win, defeating the Lords by the score of 4-3. Especially impressive was Jon Pierce. Jack Pratt picked up the save for New York, his 1st of the year.

New York used a clutch at-bat from Roger Hickey to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Empires ahead, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

After the game, New York manager Dan Whiting applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
