Generals Best Terriers in Pitching Duel
|
The Boston Terriers inaugurated their 1977 season with a tough 2-1 loss to the Atlanta Generals at Atlantic Avenue Grounds. Starting Pitcher Bill Davis had perhaps the best performance for Atlanta. Davis, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 12 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing 1 run.
Atlanta used the timely hitting of Ron Bullins to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Generals on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Davis told the Atlanta Observer.
