Empires Cut Down Hurons, 3-1
|
Andy Humphrey pitched a dandy of a game to help the New York Empires beat the Toronto Hurons, 3-1. Picking up his 18th save was 24-year old left-handed pitcher Jack Pratt. The Empires are now 44-42, while the Hurons fall to 46-43.
New York right fielder Al Castro helped the Empires go up, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Castro hit a run-scoring single off Toronto pitcher Bill John.
"Main thing is I want the team to win," Humphrey told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
