Quakers Win at Home, 3-1
|
The Philadelphia Quakers rode a solid performance from 25-year-old starting pitcher Juan Ramirez to a win, beating the New York Knickerbockers, 3-1, at Quakers Stadium. Ramirez yielded 1 run over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. His record improves to 12-0. The Quakers have an impressive 52-33 record.
Ted Schlener had a big 2-run home run for the Quakers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a splitter from Jack Forbes, who is tied for 10th in the NBL with a 3.07 ERA, and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Quakers on top, 3-0.
"We busted our tails," said New York manager William Bowen. "But we came up short."
