Detroit Defeated By Habitants, 3-2
|
Detroit got a decent performance from pitcher John Fredrick, but it wasn't enough to beat the Montreal Habitants. Montreal won the LaSalle Stadium contest, 3-2. Fredrick threw 7.1 innings allowing 3 runs for the losing team. Montreal, at 54-35, holds down first place in the American Baseball League Eastern Division.
Montreal pinch hitter John Conley contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a knuckle curve to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 31st hit of the season and put the Habitants ahead, 2-0.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Montreal manager Michel Alexandre Cauchon.
