A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the New York Empires and Detroit Wolverines.

New York Empires starter Larry Stanford found his groove in his team's 8-3 win over the Detroit Wolverines. The Empires improved their record to 45-42 with the win over Detroit.

Rick Lintner had a big 2-run home run for the Empires in the top of the fourth inning. With New York leading 4-1 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a cutter from Jim Bryant, who finished 5th in the ABL in wins with 16 in 1969, and punished it. The result was his 14th home run of the season, which put the Empires on top, 6-1.

"I was able to fill up the zone," said Stanford.
