Due in large part to center fielder Ron Byrd, the San Diego Captains sunk the Milwaukee Dairymen, 10-3. Byrd went 3-4 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Picking up the win was Mark Pike. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. The right--hander struck out 2 and walked 4. San Diego is now 53-35. Milwaukee is 41-48.

John Hammit drove in one run for San Diego. The 29-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Danny Guerra. It was his 5th RBI of the season.

"I had a good game," said Byrd. "Winning makes it even better."
