Chuck Gunter was a major factor in the 5-2 Los Angeles win over Houston. The Pobladores first baseman was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Leon Fairley earned the save, his 16th in 18 tries. The 4th-place Pobladores are now 47-43, the Drillers 48-42.
Leo Alexander, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1968 draft, helped out the Los Angeles cause in the bottom of the first inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the second baseman was 1-3 with a walk.
In comments to the Los Angeles Citizen, Alexander admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
