Quakers Get 7-3 Win Versus Washington
|
The Philadelphia Quakers defeated the Washington Eagles, 7-3. Shortstop Vern Friend deserved a large share of the credit. Friend was 4 for 4 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Quakers. Juan Ramirez, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 5 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 4-7. The win puts Philadelphia at 36-55.
Tim Hunt had a key at-bat with one out in the top of the first for Philadelphia. With the bases loaded and the Quakers leading 1-0, he grounded out, driving in 1 run.
"I did what I could," said Friend. "But like I tell my teammates, 'I can only do so much myself.'"
